The Interinstitutional Thematic Scientific Collection "Pig Breeding and Agroindustrial Production" adheres to the principles of humane treatment of agricultural and laboratory animals used in research in the field of animal husbandry and veterinary medicine.
All materials submitted for the publication must comply with the current legislation of Ukraine and international ethical standards for conducting research, namely:
- ● Law of Ukraine "On the Protection of Animals from Cruelty" dated February 21, 2006 No. 3447-IV:
- ● Law of Ukraine "On Environmental Protection" dated June 26, 1991 No. 1264-XII:
- ● Law of Ukraine "On Veterinary Medicine and Animal Welfare" dated February 04, 2021 No. 1206-IX:
- ● Directive 2010/63/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of September 22, 2010 on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes. OJ L 276. 2010 October 20:33–79.
The mandatory ethical approval (conclusion of the relevant ethics committee/commission or other authorized body) is required for research that involves:
- ● involving various types of farm and laboratory animals in the experiment;
- ● using animal biological materials.
An ethical conclusion ensures that the interests of science do not prevail over the principles of humane treatment of living beings.
According to international bioethics standards, animal research must comply with the 3R principles (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement):
- ● Replacement involves justifying that alternative methods (computer modeling, in vitro cell cultures) cannot replace the use of live animals.
- ● Reduction involves justifying the minimum number of animals needed to obtain reliable statistical data.
- ● Refinement involves improving the methods of conducting the experiment to minimize pain, stress or suffering of the animals and improve their welfare.
When conducting research, authors must ensure:
- ● scientifically based standards for feeding and housing animals that meet the physiological needs of the species.
- ● mandatory use of painkillers during surgical procedures or manipulations that cause pain.
- ● humane euthanasia until the development of critical pain syndrome, if the study predicts death
In the submitted manuscript, authors are required to indicate information about the availability of ethical approval, including the name of the body that provided the conclusion, the date and protocol number. If ethical approval is not required, authors must provide appropriate justification.
The editorial board reserves the right to request copies of ethical conclusions, research protocols, or other documents to confirm compliance with ethical standards. If the author has not provided the necessary permissions or if a violation of ethical standards is detected, the editorial board reserves the right to withdraw the manuscript from consideration or reject it.
The responsibility for the authenticity of the permissions and compliance of the study with legal standards lies solely with the authors.
