The publication ethics and editorial policy of the scientific collection "Pig Breeding and Agroindustrial Production" complies with the recommendations of the COPE and other recognized international organizations in the field of publication ethics.
The editorial board strives to minimize the possibility of abuse of readers' trust, guarantee the academic integrity and a high scientific level of the publication.
Based on the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), Elsevier Publishing House, and the Code of Ethics of a Scientist of Ukraine, the editorial board approved the following principles of work for members of the editorial board, reviewers, and authors of the scientific collection.
Duties of the Editor-in-Chief and members of the Editorial Board
The Editor-in-Chief provides general management of the editorial and publishing process and is responsible for ensuring that the editorial board adheres to the principles of academic integrity in accordance with the current legislation of Ukraine and international standards of publication ethics.
Editor-in-chief:
- ● forms and updates the composition of the editorial board, involving competent specialists in relevant scientific fields;
- ● together with the members of the editorial board, develops and improves the editorial policy of the publication, as well as guidelines for authors and reviewers;
- ● ensures compliance with ethical standards of publishing activities and principles of the academic integrity at all stages of the editorial and publishing process;
- ● appoints reviewers from among the members of the editorial board or external independent reviewers, taking into account their expertise;
- ● makes final decisions on acceptance or rejection of manuscripts, provided there is no conflict of interest;
- ● considers controversial situations, complaints and appeals related to editorial decisions, the review process and the publication of materials. If the editor-in-chief submits his own materials, they are reviewed by other members of the editorial board who do not have a conflict of interest.
Editorial board:
- ● when evaluating manuscripts, only the scientific and intellectual value of the work is guided, regardless of the race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, origin, citizenship, place of employment, political preferences, or social status of the author(s);
- ● provides authors with the opportunity to respond to any comments in a reasoned manner;
- ● does not provide information related to the content of the manuscript under review to other persons, except for persons participating in the professional evaluation of this manuscript. Unpublished data are not used for personal purposes and are not transferred to third parties without the written consent of the author. Information or ideas obtained during the editing process and related to possible benefits are confidential and are not used for personal gain.
- ● does not accept for publication articles for which there is sufficient reason to consider them plagiarism, and also opposes falsification, plagiarism, and simultaneous submission of the same manuscript to several scientific publications. The editorial board reserves the right to reject manuscripts without review if the uniqueness of the manuscript text is less than 80% of its total volume.
Responsibilities of reviewers
- ● if the reviewer is not sure that his qualifications correspond to the research topic, or if it is impossible to meet the review deadlines, he must immediately notify the editorial office and return the manuscript;
- ● scientific examination of author materials should be impartial and objective, and should contribute to improving the quality of the manuscript through constructive comments. At the same time, the reviewer should respect the intellectual independence of the authors;
- ● the manuscript is a confidential document that cannot be transferred for review or discussion to third parties, except in cases where the reviewer requires special consultation;
- ● unpublished data obtained from manuscripts submitted for review should not be used by the reviewer for personal purposes unless the author team agrees to this;
- ● the reviewer is obliged to refuse to review if there is a potential conflict of interest and must notify the editorial board with a request to exclude him from reviewing the manuscript;
- ● the reviewer must point to relevant scientific works not mentioned in the manuscript, as well as to significant similarities between this manuscript and any published article or any manuscript simultaneously submitted to another scientific publication;
- ● the reviewer must provide feedback without undue delay;
Authors' responsibilities
- ● submit for consideration by the editorial board only the original manuscript of a scientific article that has not been published previously and is not under consideration in another publication;
- ● bear personal responsibility for the content of the submitted manuscript, as well as for the novelty, reliability and scientific validity of the research results;
- ● adhere to the principles of academic integrity and avoid practices that may be considered plagiarism, self-plagiarism, dishonest borrowing or citation manipulation such as excessive self-citation;
- ● ensure correct citation of all sources used in the preparation of the manuscript, and make references in accordance with the requirements of the publication with the mandatory indication of the DOI if available;
- ● if research data are available, facilitate their placement in open repositories (Zenodo, Figshare, etc.) in accordance with FAIR recommendations, indicating the DOI;
- ● include as authors only those individuals who have made a significant intellectual contribution to the preparation of the manuscript (planning and conducting research, writing and formatting the manuscript text, and editing it); ● confirm that all co-authors are familiar with the final version of the manuscript and have agreed to its submission for publication;
- ● disclose any financial or personal relationships that may affect the results or their interpretation in the submitted manuscript;
- ● if the research involves the use of animals or their biomaterials, ensure compliance with international and national recommendations on bioethics, duly state this in the manuscript and, if necessary, provide an ethical opinion from the relevant commissions (committees);
- ● if significant errors or inaccuracies are identified in the article during its review or after publication, notify the editorial office of the publication as soon as possible.
The editorial policy is subject to periodic review, taking into account the requirements of national legislation in the field of academic integrity and international practices.
